The Windows 95 Driver
=====================

                                              ------------------------

Summary
-------

This file tells you how to configure the MDGMPORT.SYS driver under
Windows95. It also provides troubleshooting information.

Section 1) Advanced Configuration
---------------------------------
To set parameters for the Miniport driver, choose the Networks option
from the Control panel. Highlight the Madge adapter in the components
list. Select Properties. Then click on Advanced.

You will see a list of options, each of which is described below.
Once you have finished setting options, click on OK., Then click again
on OK in the Networks dialog box.

The options are as follows:

Ringspeed
---------
The CardBus adapter has a factory default ring speed of 16Mbps. You
can alter the ring speed to 4Mbps by running the Madge Token Ring
Configuration program, TRCFGC.EXE. Alternatively, you can override the
ring speed configured at the adapter by using this driver option.

LAA
---
Normally a token-ring adapter uses an address that is stored on the
adapter. However, you can set a different, locally administered,
address bu using the LAA option. The address you specify must be a 12
digit, hexadecimal number in the range 400000000000 to 7fffffffffff.

Maximum Frame Size
------------------
This option allows you to set the maximum frame size for the adapter.

Transfer Type
-------------
On some adapters there are several different ways of transferring data
between the computer and the adapter. This option allows you to choose
which method to use. The options avaialable for the CardBus Adapter
are "PIO" and "DMA"

Watchdog
--------
Normally, MDGMPORT closes down an adapter when instructed to do so by
the operating system. Under almost all circumstances this is the
correct behaviour. However, if the computer hangs, then the adapter
will not be closed down until the computer is powered off. To get
around this problem, insert the word "Watchdog" into the registry and
give it a non-zero value. This causes the adapter to close down
automatically if the computer does not respond for the number of
seconds that you specify. We recommend a period of 15 seconds.

Section 2) Troubleshooting
--------------------------

If you start Windows 95 and a message appears saying that your Madge
adapter is not working, then you must start an MS-DOS session and type
the command:

    TYPE C:\WINDOWS\NDISLOG.TXT

(This assumes that C:\WINDOWS is the directory that you have installed
Windows95 into.)

You will see some text like:

Madge 16/4 CardBus Adapter (0001). Error Code = AAAAAAAAAA, ....

To find out the meaning of each value of AAAAAAAAAA, read the
ERRORS.TXT file.

Section 3) Hardware Initialization Error Codes
----------------------------------------------
If the adapter fails because of a hardware initialization problem, you
can use the PP and QQ values in the error report to determine why.

Some of the common errors are explained in the file ERRORS.TXT. If the
QQ value in your case does not match any of the values listed in
ERRORS.TXT, contact MADGE technical support. Quote the PP and QQ
values in the error reported to NDISLOG.TXT.
