Madge Wizard
============
                                               LSS 5.0(0), August 1996
                                               -----------------------
Running Madge Wizard
====================

Madge Wizard can be run from a floppy disk, the LSS CD, a hard disk
drive or a network drive. In order to get the best performance it is
recommended that you run it from a hard disk drive or network drive.

For even better performance, if you have enough available disk space,
then you can decompress the Madge Wizard files. To do this, type
MWIZARD DECOMPRESS. This will decompress MWIZARD.EXE and any .WIZ
files. To reverse the process, you can type MWIZARD COMPRESS to
restore the compressed state.

If you are running on a slow (286/386) machine, or on a computer that
does not support graphics modes, then you can force Madge Wizard to
run in text mode. Type MWIZARD TEXT to do this. This will give you a
performance improvement.

If you do not wish to run all of the Wizards, then you need not have
all the .WIZ files present. This may be useful if creating a single
floppy disk for running a Software Wizard script file. In this case
the  HARDWARE.WIZ,  DOCS.WIZ,  TESTNODE.WIZ and NEWNODE.WIZ files need
not be present.

Access to the LSS CD
====================

The Document Wizard, and some parts of the Software Wizard, require
the LSS CD to be present. The LSS CD should be present in the CD drive
before you run Madge Wizard. If you have copied the entire LSS CD onto
a hard disk or a network volume, then Madge Wizard will not recognize
the CD unless you have the root of a drive mapped to the CD directory.
To achieve this, you must use the DOS 'SUBST' command, or the NetWare
'MAP' command, or some equivalent.

NetWare example:

The LSS CD is copied to network drive N:\MADGECD

Type 'MAP ROOT M:=N:\MADGECD' to map drive M: to the root of the
CD.

Hard disk example:

The LSS CD is copied to hard disk drive C:\MADGECD

Type 'SUBST D: C:\MADGECD' to map drive D: to the root of the CD.

Memory requirements for running Madge Wizard
============================================

Madge Wizard requires at least 510K of free DOS memory to run. Of
this, only 380K needs to be in contiguous lower memory beneath 640K.
The rest of the memory can come from 640K-1Mbyte (made available by
running HIMEM.SYS). If running in text mode, only 500K of free DOS
memory is required.

If you do not have enough memory, Madge Wizard will inform you. In
order to gain full access to the help system in all situations, you
need at least 560K of free DOS memory to run. If you do not have
enough memory to run the help browser at any point, Madge Wizard will
inform you.

Problems you may encounter running Madge Wizard
===============================================

Madge Wizard requires a significant number of file handles to run
properly. If you encounter problems such as not all the Madge Wizard
main menu buttons appearing, or read/write problems on known writable
drives, then you may have run out of file handles. If there are not
enough, then Madge Wizard will abort telling you. To increase the
number of file handles, you must increase the 'FILES=??' number in
your CONFIG.SYS file. It is recommended that you set FILES=50 or more.

Madge Wizard can run in Windows 3.x, Windows95, OS/2 and NT DOS boxes,
to give access to Documentation Wizard and the on-line documentation.
The DOS box must be in full screen mode. Only the Documentation
Wizard is available under these environments, and you will be
prevented from running any of the other Wizards. If you encounter
problems running in these environments, then you should use native DOS
to run Madge Wizard. Alternatively, the Windows Documentation Browser
MDGDOCS.EXE gives similar functionality to the Documentation Wizard
and is available on the LSS CD.

Madge Wizard runs under the MDGBOOT environment (i.e. the bootable LSS
5.0(0) Disk 1), but does not allow you to run the Software Wizard or
to use any scripting features in any part of Madge Wizard. Also, when
running under MDGBOOT, you will not be able to print any information.
Madge Wizard can be run from any normal DOS bootable floppy. In these
circumstances, all of the above features are available.

Madge Wizard command line options
=================================

The command line options are listed below. Note these override any
settings in MWIZARD.INI. If an illegal parameter is given, the program
will return an error for the illegal parameter and the user is
directed to type 'MWIZARD /?'. All command line options are
case-insensitive and will allow for a leading '/' (DOS style), a
leading '-' (UNIX style) or no leading characters.

To display the version information:
MWIZARD VERSION

To launch a particular wizard directly without going through the menu:
MWIZARD HARDWARE
MWIZARD SOFTWARE
MWIZARD DOCS
MWIZARD NEWNODE
MWIZARD TESTNODE

To turn scripting on:
MWIZARD SCRIPTING

To use text display mode:
MWIZARD TEXT

To decompresses the .EXE and .WIZ files for greater execution speed
when running from a hard disk or network volume. You must have write
access to the directory and enough space for the decompression (the
files approximately double in size):
MWIZARD DECOMPRESS

To reverse the decompression (i.e. set back to the original state):
MWIZARD COMPRESS

To ignore the options specified in the MWIZARD.INI file, that is to
use only the command line options:
MWIZARD IGNOREINI

To display the initial command line help screen:
MWIZARD ?

To display the hardware help screen:
MWIZARD ?HARDWARE

To display the software help screen:
MWIZARD ?SOFTWARE

To run a script for either Hardware or Software Wizard:
MWIZARD HARDWARE LOAD=<script>
MWIZARD SOFTWARE LOAD=<script>

To edit a software script for Software Wizard:
MWIZARD SOFTWARE LOAD=<script> NORUNSCRIPT

To turn off all initial errors/warnings during card discovery in
Hardware Wizard:
MWIZARD HARDWARE NOINITWARNINGS

To turn off all hardware script errors (for batch scripting):
MWIZARD HARDWARE LOAD=<script> NOSCRIPTERRORS

To specify the drive from where Software Wizard will read the set up
from and the drive\directory which it will write to on install:
MWIZARD SOFTWARE DIR=<full destination>
For example, 'MWIZARD SOFTWARE DIR=C:\MADGE\'

To specify the DOS6 menu item to read and write configuration
information to in Software wizard:
MWIZARD SOFTWARE MENU=<menu item>

Note that the <menu item> is the identifying name for the item i.e.
the variable 'THISONE' in the following CONFIG.SYS example:

	[MENU]
	MENUITEM=THISONE, THIS MENU ITEM
	MENUITEM=ANOTHERONE, ANOTHER MENU ITEM

Madge Wizard ini-file syntax
============================

The MWIZARD.INI parameters give similar functionality to the command
line parameters. They are split into sections corresponding to the
Wizard they apply to. The default MWIZARD.INI file includes all the
parameters commented out.
