IBM DOS LAN Services versions 4.0 and 5.0

Installing IBM DOS LAN Services versions 4.0 and 5.0 onto a workstation

  1. Put the CardBus Adapter into the CardBus slot in the PC.
  2. Boot the PC.
  3. Put the first IBM LAN Requester Install disk into the floppy drive, and press [ENTER].
  4. At the first screen, press [ENTER].
  5. Select Network card not shown on list below ...
  6. Remove the IBM disk, and insert the Madge CSS Release Disk into the floppy drive.
  7. Select Madge 16/4 CardBus Adapter, and press [ENTER].
  8. When prompted, put the IBM disk back into the floppy drive, and press [ENTER].
  9. When prompted, type a Machine ID, User Name, and Domain Name.
  10. Confirm the install options, and press [ENTER].
  11. Confirm the details you entered above, and press [ENTER].
  12. A screen appears showing the configuration of the Adapter. You can change any settings by using this screen. Make sure that the speed of the adapter (16Mbps or 4Mbps) matches the speed of the network you are connecting to. If it does not, you will impair the operation of the network. The factory default speed is 16Mbps.
  13. Press [ENTER].
  14. The system copies files.
  15. Insert the IBM LAN Requester disks as prompted.
  16. Press F3 and exit the program.
  17. Copy the driver files from the \DOS directory on the Madge CSS Release Disk to the \NET directory on the workstation's hard drive. To do this, type:

    COPY A:\DOS\MCBND.* C:\NET

  18. Remove the Madge disk from the floppy drive, and reboot the PC.
  19. Finally, if you chose to include support for Windows when you were installing DOS LAN Services, then you can now set up DOS LAN Services for Windows.
