Windows 95: installing the miniport driver

The miniport driver for the Madge 16/4 CardBus Adapter is called MCBWIN.SYS. To install it, follow the instructions below:

  1. Boot your computer into Windows 95.

  2. Put the CardBus Adapter into the CardBus slot in your computer.

  3. Windows 95 automatically detects the adapter, and displays the Update Device Driver Wizard window. This window prompts you for the manufacturer's floppy disk or CD-ROM.

  4. Insert the Madge CSS Release Disk and click Next.

  5. Click Finish.

  6. Confirm the ring speed. The factory default is 16Mbps but you can use the pull-down menu to to set it to 4Mbps. Make sure you set the correct ring speed for the network you are connecting to. If you set a different ring speed you can seriously impair the operation of the network.

  7. When you have set the ring speed, you are prompted again to insert the manufacturer's disk. Ignore this message; your disk is already in the computer. Click OK.

  8. Type the path of the Madge drivers: A:\.

  9. The system copies files. When it has finished you are prompted to restart the computer. When you have done this, the installation is complete.

Note: Now that you have installed the drivers, Windows 95 will automatically load them whenever you put the Madge CardBus Adapter into the CardBus slot. For this to work, however, you need to use the same CardBus slot each time.
