Installing the Smart 16/4 AT Plus Ringnode

Installing the Smart 16/4 AT Plus Ringnode

Warning: Always turn off the power to your computer before installing or removing any adapter cards.

Caution: Make sure that the ring speed you set matches the speed of your network. The default ring speed for this Ringnode is 4Mbps, to change this run Madge Wizard.

Before you install the Ringnode, do the following:

  1. Check that the Ringnode is bus compatible with your computer.

  2. Read the handling precautions.

  3. Check the type of cable that you are using. The Ringnode will automatically select between its STP and UTP connectors.

If you are using drivers from releases 3.3(x), 4.0(x), 4.1(x) then you will need to change your Ringnode's operating mode.

Note: You do not need to adjust the hardware switches unless you plan to install more than one Ringnode in your computer, you wish to boot remotely, or you wish to change the operating mode.

Then insert the Ringnode into your computer, and connect it to a working token-ring network.

To configure your Ringnode using the software settings, run Madge Wizard. To password protect your Ringnode, run PWSET.EXE.
