Installing the Smart 16/4 EISA Ringnode

Installing the Smart 16/4 EISA Ringnode

Warning: Always turn off the power to your computer before installing or removing any adapter cards.

Caution: Make sure that the ring speed you set matches the speed of your network. There is no default ring speed set on this Ringnode. To set the ring speed, use the configuration file supplied.

Before you install the Ringnode, do the following:

  1. Check that the Ringnode is bus compatible with your computer.

  2. Read the handling precautions.

  3. Check the type of cable that you are using. The Ringnode will automatically select between its STP and UTP connectors.

Then insert the Ringnode into your computer, and connect it to a working token-ring network.

To configure your Ringnode, use the EISA configuration file supplied.

Note: Earlier version of the EISA Ringnode required that the cable type be set from the EISA configuration program. On current Ringnodes, the correct option is selected automatically. However, Madge Wizard will report the cable type as set be the configuration program.
