Smart II Software: configuring for source-routing bridges
This TechNote tells you which parameters to use to configure your Smart IPX, ODI, and
TCP/IP modules, to support source-routing bridges.
IPX
To support source-routing bridges with the Smart IPX module, use the parameter
sr=y or source.routing=y in the [IPX] section of your SMART.CFG file. This parameter
performs the same function as Novell's ROUTE.COM program, but it uses less DOS
memory. If you enable source routing, seven additional parameters are available:
- DEFAULT.BROADCAST
- GENERAL.BROADCAST
- MULTICAST.BROADCAST
- SOURCE.ROUTE.BROADCAST
- CACHE.TIMEOUT
- THIS.RING.ONLY
- THIS.RING.ALT
For further information about the IPX source-routing parameter and the
parameters associated with it, see TechNote 06613.
ODI
To support source-routing bridges with the Smart ODI module, use the parameter
odi.sr=y or odi.source.routing=y in the [ODI] of your SMART.CFG file. This parameter
performs the same function as Novell's ROUTE.COM program, but it uses less DOS
memory. If you enable source routing, seven additional parameters are available:
- ODI.DEFAULT.BROADCAST
- ODI.GENERAL.BROADCAST
- ODI.MULTICAST.BROADCAST
- ODI.SOURCE.ROUTE.BROADCAST
- ODI.CACHE.TIMEOUT
- ODI.THIS.RING.ONLY
- ODI.THIS.RING.ALT
For further information about the ODI source-routing parameter and the
parameters associated with it, see TechNote 06614.
TCP/IP
If your token-ring network uses source-routing bridges, the Smart TCP/IP software
performs source routing automatically. You do not need to supply any special parameters or
run any additional software. For information about the ARP.BROADCAST.ALL,
RARP.BROADCAST.ALL, and SR.LOCAL.BROADCAST parameters, see TechNote 06615.
These are available as refinements to your Address and Reverse Address Resolution
Protocols.
