Installing the Madge PCMCIA Ringnode using Toshiba Cardware
This TechNote tells you how to install a Madge PCMCIA Ringnode in a Toshiba computer
using Toshiba Cardware software.
Using the following procedure, you can install Madge PCMCIA Ringnodes in the following
Toshiba computer models: T4800, T1950 and T2400. Other models may also work.
Before carrying out the following steps make sure your Toshiba Cardware software is
properly installed. To install a PCMCIA Ringnode:
- Check that the following lines are specified in the CONFIG.SYS file:
device=c:\dos\emm386.exe noems x=c800-dfff
device=c:\cardware\sspcic.exe
device=c:\cardware\pccs.exe
device=c:\cardware\pcrm.exe
device=c:\cardware\pcenable
device=c:\cardware\pcdisk.exe
- Add the following line to the [Resource] section of the default cardware.ini file:
io=0x300, 0x20, e, 10
If you do not have a default cardware.ini file, use the set-up utility, MDC.EXE, to
create one.
- Reboot your computer.
- Enter Windows and run the PC Card utility. The screen displays the PC Card Control
for Windows screen.
- Select CARD from the menu and choose Edit. The screen displays the Edit Card
Window.
- Select the appropriate socket in which your PCMCIA Ringnode is installed.
- Remove all the entries (including Auto Config) from the Associated Window, by
highlighting each entry and clicking on Remove.
- Select either the LAN1 or LAN2 device (whichever corresponds to your computer
setup). Click on Include. The device is added to the Associated Window.
Note
If LAN1 or LAN2 does not exist:
- Select NEW DEVICE. The screen displays the Device Settings Window.
- Add LAN1 or LAN2 to the Name field and in the Type field select Network Adapter.
- Enter the following values:
IO Range 1: Base = 300 [Hex], Length = 8 [Bytes]
Memory Range 1: Base = D000 [Hex], Length = 8 [KBytes]
IRQ level: 5
- Select OK.
- Click on EDIT DEVICE and ensure the values for I/O Range, Memory
Range, and IRQ Level are the following:
IO Range 1: Base = 300 [Hex], Length = 8 [Bytes]
Memory Range 1: Base = D000 [Hex], Length = 8 [KBytes]
IRQ level: 5
- Click on OK and then select OK again. The screen displays the PC Card Control for
Windows window.
- Select CARD from the menu and choose Reconfigure.
- Select the socket that contains your PCMCIA Ringnode. The Ringnode field displays
the ‘[Not in use]’ message.
- Exit Windows and reboot your computer. Your Madge PCMCIA Ringnode is now
installed.
Note
If your computer displays ‘Hardware Error’ when loading Madge drivers, do the following:
- Run TSETUP.EXE.
- Change the IRQ of the SCSI controller to 10.
The computer will now run correctly.
