Troubleshooting with SMARTROM.EXE

SMARTROM.EXE may fail to reprogram a Smartrom or to report the configuration of a Smartrom if:

  1. The Smartrom is disabled.
In this case enable your Smartrom using the Madge Wizard configuration utility or by setting a switch on the Ringnode where applicable.

  2. There is a memory manager loaded in your computer that is making use of the area of upper memory required by your Smartrom.

This problem can be avoided if you prevent the memory manager from using the area of upper memory required by the Smartrom. For example, to prevent EMM386 using the upper memory block CC00-D400 use the x= option as follows: "x=CC00-D400".
