Error messages

This file details the error codes which may be returned when remote booting using a Madge Smartrom.

Remote Program Load (MULTI.ROM or NRPL.ROM)

529 Adapter failed to initialize or open; RPL halted
Check that your cable is properly inserted. Then reboot your workstation. If the problem persists then run the diagnostics utility to check that your Ringnode is configured correctly.

RPL-ROM-FFC: xx
If the 'xx' value continues to count up then the server is not responding to the workstation's RPL requests. Ensure that there is a server on the ring with RPL remote boot services running.

If, in a NetWare environment, the workstation starts to boot but hangs after loading the bootstrap program, ensure that the correct bootstrap program is being loaded. To do this, copy RBOOT.RPL into the SYS:\LOGIN directory, then re-load and bind RPL.

NetWare Remote Reset (MULTI.ROM or NW.ROM)

E9901 Error initializing Network Interface Board.
Check that your cable is properly inserted. Then reboot your workstation. If the problem persists then check that your Ringnode is configured correctly by running the diagnostics utility.

Error finding server
Ensure that server <SERVER NAME> set in the Smartrom exists on the network, and is running.

Error opening boot disk image file
Ensure that the boot disk image filename set in the Smartrom exists in the SYS:\LOGIN directory of the server.

The server name and boot disk image programmed in the Smartrom can be viewed and changed by running SMARTROM.EXE.
