Installing the MDGWFWG.386 (NDIS3) driver

The MDGWFWG.386 driver provides an NDIS3 interface for Windows for Workgroups stations.
If you are installing a Madge Ringnode for an ISA bus, then, before performing the steps below, make a note of the IRQ number, I/O location, and DMA channel that the Ringnode is configured to use.

To install MDGWFG.386:

  1. Run the Network Setup program.

  2. In the Network Drivers dialog box, click on Drivers.

  3. Click on Remove, and remove any drivers and protocols currently installed on the Ringnode. (At this point, shut down and reboot, then run Network Setup again.)

  4. Click on Add Adapter to bring up the Add Network Adapter box.

  5. If you have not installed the driver before, select Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter from the list.

  6. Click on OK.

  7. In the Install Driver box, enter the path to the directory containing MDGWFWG.386 and the OEMSETUP.INF file.

  8. Select the Madge Ringnode you have installed. If you have installed the driver before, select the Madge Ringnode you have installed.

  9. Confirm the I/O location, interrupt number, and DMA channel.

  10. Ensure that these settings match those on the Ringnode.

  11. In the Network drivers dialog box, click on Setup.

  12. Click on Driver Type. Select one of the following:

    i. Enhanced Mode NDIS Driver. This gives you NDIS3.

ii. Real Mode and Enhanced Mode NDIS Driver. This gives you NDIS3. (But if you are running NET START WORKSTATION before Windows for Workgroups, it gives you NDIS2 instead.)

  13. Restart the system.
