Introducing the Smart Software

The Smart Software consists of an executable file called SMART.EXE and a selection of interface and protocol modules, each identifiable by the SMT extension. SMART.EXE loads the modules that you specify (in a configuration file called SMART.CFG or on the command line) into memory on the Ringnode, and into a small area of DOS memory.

These files can either be found on the CD-ROM in the \LSS.500\SMART directory or in a self-extracting executable file called EXTRACT.EXE on Disk 2 in the \SMART directory.

The Smart Software drivers save DOS memory by loading into memory on the Ringnode instead of on the host computer. They require only small amounts of DOS memory and can be used to support most networking protocols in concurrent combinations. In some combinations they can deliver more than twice the performance of equivalent, host-based, protocol stacks. The Smart Software consists of a number of components.
