Using the IBM LAN Adapter and Protocol Support (LAPS) program to install the Madge driver, MDGND.OS2

Many IBM LAN products for OS/2 version 2.x require you to use the IBM LAN Adapter and Protocol Support (LAPS) program to configure the protocol stack. LAPS is supplied with the following products:

  • IBM LAN Server
  • IBM Extended Services for OS/2
  • IBM Network Transport Services/2

You can also use it to configure protocols for:

  • IBM Communications Manager/2
  • IBM Database Manager/2

To install MDGND.OS2:

  1. Run the IBM LAPS program and insert the Madge release disk into a floppy drive.

  2. Select Install from the LAPS front panel.

  3. Type the path of the directory A:\OS2 which is where the drivers are stored. LAPS copies the files from the Madge release disk.

  4. Shutdown and reboot your computer.

  5. Select Configure LAN transports from the Configuration box. In the Configure Workstation window:

(If IBM Token-Ring Network Adapter appears in the Current Configuration box, remove the protocols for the adapter individually, and then remove the adapter name)

i Add Madge Fastmac Plus OS/2 NDIS MAC driver for Smart 16/4 Ringnodes to the list in the Current Configuration box.

ii Add all of the protocols you need to the list in the Current Configuration box. Basic operation for LAN Server Requesters requires IBM OS/2 NETBIOS. If you are using IBM host connectivity, select IBM IEEE 802.2 as well.

iii To view or change parameters in PROTOCOL.INI, select Edit.

iv Complete installation by following the on-screen instructions.
