Installing the Fastmac Plus NDIS2 driver for OS/2 WarpConnect

Installing the Fastmac Plus NDIS2 driver for OS/2 WarpConnect

To install the driver for use with OS/2 Warp Connect with OS/2 LAN Requester and Novell NetWare Client 2.11:

  1. Start the installation of IBM OS/2 Warp Connect by booting from the Installation Diskette. On the Welcome to OS/2! screen select the Advanced Installation method. Continue with the installation of OS/2 in the normal way, rebooting when necessary.

  2. Select the Yes radio button in the Networking Support dialog. Select all the required products except the Novell NetWare Client 2.11 for OS/2 product from the Product Selection dialog. If no products other than the Novell NetWare Client 2.11 for OS/2 product are required, then select the IBM LAN Requester 4.0 product.

  3. From the Set up selected products settings notebook, select Madge Smart Ringnodes for OS/2 v2.x as the Network adapter in the Adapter tab. Continue with the installation of OS/2 Warp Connect, rebooting when necessary. If you see an error of the form PRO0021: A general failure occured when the program tried to bind VECTOR to MDGND_NIF, ignore it by pressing Enter to continue.

  4. Once OS/2 Warp Connect has finished installing itself, start the MPTS utility from its icon on the Desktop.

  5. Select Install from the Multi-Protocol Transport Services dialog box.

  6. In the Install Additional Network Drivers dialog, specify the pathname A:\OS2. Insert the Madge Client Disk 2 in the floppy drive, and click on Ok. Once the files have been copied to the hard disk, continue to select Ok until you are returned to the Multi-Protocol Transport Services dialog.

  7. Exit MPTS. A dialog will appear to inform you that CONFIG.SYS is being updated. When MPTS has finished executing, reboot the computer. OS/2 Warp Connect will now use the latest version of MDGND.OS2.

  8. Open the OS/2 System folder. Open the OS/2 Warp Connect Install/Remove folder, and start the Warp Connect Selective Install for Networking utility.

  9. In the Local versus Remote dialog, select to install On this workstation. In the Installing OS/2 Warp Connect dialog, select the Advanced Installation method.

  10. Select the Novell NetWare Client 2.11 for OS/2 product from the Product Selection dialog.

  11. Madge Smart Ringnodes for OS/2 v2.x should already be highlighted as the Network adapter in the Adapter tab of the Set up selected products settings notebook. Continue with the installation of OS/2 Warp Connect.

  12. Once the installation of the Novell NetWare Client 2.11 for OS/2 product is complete, reboot the computer.

If you wish to only have the Novell NetWare Client 2.11 for OS/2 product installed, it is now possible to remove the IBM LAN Requester 4.0 product that was installed earlier. To remove this product:

  1. Open the OS/2 System folder. Open the OS/2 Warp Connect Install/Remove folder. Start the LAN Requester Install/Remove utility.

  2. Select the Tailored installation method, and then choose to Remove LAN Requester from this workstation.

  3. Select No when prompted as to whether you want to remove MPTS, and Yes when prompted as to whether you want to remove the requester. This will delete the IBMLAN and MUGLIB subdirectories. Depress the OK button to stop the LAN software, and depress the OK button again to finish the process.

  4. Shut down your computer and reboot.
