Installing the Fastmac Plus driver for OS/2 WarpServer

Installing the Fastmac Plus driver for OS/2 WarpServer

To install the driver for use with OS/2 Warp Server:

  1. Start the installation of IBM OS/2 Warp Server by booting from the Installation Disk. From the INSTALLATION screen select the Advanced Installation method. Continue with the installation of OS/2 in the normal way, rebooting when necessary.

  2. Select the required services from the OS/2 Warp Server Setup and Installation dialog box. From the Configuration dialog, select the Adapters and Protocol Services tree entry. In the Add Adapter dialog, select MADGE FASTMAC PLUS OS/2 NDIS DRIVER FOR SMART 16/4 RINGNODES (FOR OS/2 V2.X & ABOVE) as the Network adapter, and click on OK. Continue completing the entries in the configuration tree, and click on Install when done.

  3. Continue with the installation of OS/2 Warp Server, rebooting when necessary. If you see any errors of the form LT00042: The MDGND_nif MAC was not able to bind. Return Code = 0xFF, LT80213: ODI2NDI.OS2 was unable to bind to MAC VECTOR. Adapter 0 cannot be used by ODI2NDI.OS2, or PRO0021: A general failure occured when the program tried to bind VECTOR to MDGND_NIF, ignore them by pressing Enter to continue.

  4. Once OS/2 Warp Server has finished installing itself, the OS/2 Warp Server Installation Complete dialog will be displayed. Close this dialog, and open the OS/2 System folder. Open the System Setup folder and start the MPTS Adapters and Protocol Services utility.

  5. Click on Install on the Multi-Protocol Transport Services dialog. In the Install Additional Network Drivers dialog, specify the pathname A:\OS2. Insert the Madge Client Disk 2 in the floppy drive, and click on OK. Once the files have been copied to the hard disk, continue to select OK until you are returned to the Multi-Protocol Transport Services dialog.

  6. Click on Configure.

  7. In the Configure dialog box, click on Configure. This brings up the LAPS Configuration dialog box.

  8. Highlight the Madge Fastmac Plus OS/2 NDIS MAC driver for Smart 16/4 Ringnodes item, and click on Edit. Edit the parameters as required: generally, there will be no need to specify values for the Maximum Frame Size, Open Adapter Automatically, and Copy All Data parameters, and the values that are already configured for these parameters must now be deleted.

  9. Examine the entries in the Current Configuration list-box. If the IBM Netware Requester Support protocol is listed below the Madge Fastmac Plus OS/2 NDIS MAC driver for Smart 16/4 Ringnodes item, then highlight the IBM Netware Requester Support item and depress the Edit button. Edit the parameters: the Network adapter address parameter must be set to the burnt-in address of the adapter (which can be obtained from the file \IBMCOM\LANTRAN.LOG), the Token-Ring frame header support parameters should be set to Yes, and the Ethernet frame header support parameters should be set to No. Continue to depress the OK button until you are returned to the Configure dialog box; then Close this dialog box.

  10. Exit MPTS. A dialog box will appear to inform you that CONFIG.SYS is being updated. When MPTS has finished executing, reboot the computer. OS/2 Warp Server will now use the latest version of MDGND.OS2.
