Installing the server driver

To install the MADGEODI.LAN driver on an existing NetWare server:

  1. Prepare the hard disk drives of your server according to the instructions in the NetWare documentation.

  2. Using the README file, locate the directory on the Madge CD that contains MADGEODI.LAN

  3. Copy the contents of that directory to a directory on your hard disk (for example, C:\NETWARE).

  4. Boot the NetWare server by typing SERVER at the DOS prompt.

  5. Using Novell's INSTALL utility, edit AUTOEXEC.NCF to add the LOAD and BIND commands:
    LOAD [<PATH>]<DRIVER> [PORT=<I/O ADDR] | [SLOT=<NUMBER>]

    BIND IPX TO [<PATH>]<DRIVER> NET=<NETWORK NUMBER>

Specify a slot or I/O location to identify the Ringnode.

Sample lines for a Smart 16/4 AT Plus Ringnode are:
    LOAD C:\NETWARE\MADGEODI PORT=1A20

    BIND IPX TO C:\NETWARE\MADGEODI NET=32

  6. Set the receive packet size and the receive buffer size by adding the following to the STARTUP.NCF file:

SET MAXIMUM PHYSICAL RECEIVE PACKET SIZE=4202

    SET MINIMUM PACKET RECEIVE BUFFERS=300

If your server has more than 16 Mbytes of RAM and you are using a Smart 16/4 AT or AT Plus Ringnode (or another ISA-compatible Ringnode), add the following to STARTUP.NCF: SET RESERVED BUFFERS BELOW 16 MEG=300

  7. Save the modified STARTUP.NCF file.

  8. Exit from the Install utility.

  9. When you return to the NetWare prompt, restart your server by typing:
    DOWN [Enter]
    EXIT [Enter]
    SERVER [Enter]

  10. Your Ringnode is now active.
