Installing the SCO3 UNIX LLI Driver

Installing the SCO3 UNIX LLI Driver

The Madge LLI driver must be installed with the custom program.

Before installing the driver, create an installation disk. To do this:

  1. Log into your SCO UNIX system as root.

  2. Copy the mdgsco3.img file from the Madge CD into the /tmp directory.

  3. Place a blank formatted 3.5-inch disk in drive A: and enter the command:
    dd if=/tmp/mdgsco3.img of=/dev/fd0135ds18

This creates a installable version of the driver on the floppy disk.

    To install the driver:

Insert your installation disk in drive A: and whilst logged on as "root" enter the command:
    custom

    1. From the menu select, Install

    2. Select A new product and follow the default instructions.

    3. When prompted to run netconfig, answer yes. netconfig allows you to set up one or more adapters with the Madge LLI driver. If you are unfamiliar with the netconfig program, consult the SCO network administration documentation.

    4. Use the hints below to configure your driver. You are then asked if you wish to re-link UNIX. Answer yes to all questions.

Useful hints on installing the Madge LLI driver.

    a) The Madge LLI drivers are called mtok0, mtok1, mtok2 and mtok3. mtok0 must be used for the first adapter in your PC, mtok1 for the second and so on.

    b) If you are upgrading from an earlier version of the Madge LLI driver then choose Reconfigure an element in a chain from the netconfig menu, choose to reconfigure the chain that includes mtok?, and then choose to reconfigure "mtok?".

    c) If you are installing the Madge LLI driver for the first time, choose Add a chain. You are presented with a list of drivers for the top element of the chain, select the appropriate one (this will usually be "sco_tcp"). Next, you are presented with a list of elements for the bottom element in the chain, choose one of the Madge LLI Driver elements (for example, mtok0 for the first adapter).

    d) netconfig prompts you for the type of adapter you have. There are five choices:
AT - Madge Smart ISA bus adapter cards (16/4 AT, ISA Client, AT Plus, ISA Client Plus, and AT PnP).
EISA - Madge Smart EISA adapter cards.
MC - Madge Smart MC adapter cards.
    SM16 - Madge Smart 16 adapter cards.
PNP - Madge Smart ISA Client Plug & Play adapter cards.

    e) ISA Client, ISA Client Plus, Smart 16, and ISA Plug & Play adapter cards do not us DMA, so when prompted for a DMA channel enter "PIO".

    f) You can only install one Smart 16 adapter card. This must be the first adapter installed, that is mtok0.

    g) If you select interrupt 2 for an adapter, then when SCO UNIX boots it will display the interrupt number as 9. This is just the manner in which the two eight channel interrupt controllers are chained together.
