Installing MDGMPORT.SYS

To install MDGMPORT.SYS:

  1. Install your Madge Smart Ringnode following the instructions in "Ringnode Installation".

  2. If your Madge Smart Ringnode supports Plug and Play, proceed to Installing for Plug and Play (PnP) Ringnodes, otherwise, proceed to Installing for non-Plug and Play Ringnodes.


Installing MDGMPORT.SYS for Plug and Play (PnP) Ringnodes

  1. Boot your computer into Windows 95.

  2. Insert the Madge Release Disk containing MDGMPORT.SYS.

  3. Click on OK. The screen displays a dialogue box that asks for the name of the directory containing the driver. Type: A:\

  4. Click on OK. Windows 95 copies the driver software from the Madge Release Disk and then installs the driver. When prompted to restart the computer, answer Yes. MDGMPORT.SYS is now installed.


Installing MDGMPORT.SYS for non-Plug and Play Ringnodes

  1. Make sure you know the I/O location, DMA channel (for Smart 16/4 AT and Smart 16/4 ATP) and IRQ number of your Ringnode. To find these out, use Madge Wizard.

  2. Boot your computer into Windows 95.

  3. Choose the Networks option from the Control Panel. The screen displays the Network window.

  4. Click on Add. The screen displays the Select Network Component Type window.

  5. Highlight the Adapter component, then click the Add button. From the list of Manufacturers choose Madge. A list of Madge Smart Ringnodes appears in the Network Adapters list. Highlight the Ringnode you have.

  6. Click on OK. The screen displays the original Networks dialogue box with the Ringnode in the components list.

  7. Highlight the new Ringnode.

  8. Click on Properties. The screen displays the properties dialogue box.

  9. Select the Resources tab. The hardware settings for the Ringnode are displayed.

  10. Enter the I/O location, DMA channel and IRQ number of your adapter. If your Ringnode does not support DMA (for example: Smart 16/4 PC, Smart 16/4 ISA Client, and Smart 16/4 ISA Client Plus Ringnodes and Smart 16) or you want to use programmed I/O instead of DMA then enter the DMA channel as 0.

  11. Click on OK. The screen displays the Network dialog box.

  12. Click on OK. You are prompted to insert the Madge Release Disk containing MDGMPORT.SYS.

  13. Insert the Madge Release Disk.

  14. Click on OK. The screen displays a dialogue box that asks for the name of the directory containing the driver. Type:
    A:\

  15. Click on OK. Windows 95 copies the driver software from the Madge Release Disk and then installs the driver onto the computer. When prompted to restart the computer, answer Yes. MDGMPORT.SYS is now installed.
