Installing the Smart 16/4 Fiber PCI Ringnode

Installing the Smart 16/4 Fiber PCI Ringnode

Warning: Always turn off the power to your computer before installing or removing any adapter cards.

Caution: Make sure that the ring speed you set matches the speed of your network. The default ring speed for this Ringnode is 16Mbps, to change this run Madge Wizard.
Note: This Ringnode has no switches or links that need setting, and many PCI computers will configure the Ringnode automatically. Some, however, may require you to run the configuration software supplied with the computer.

Before you install the Ringnode, do the following:

  1. Check that the Ringnode is bus compatible with your computer.

  2. Read the handling precautions.

  3. Check the type of cable that you are using. The Ringnode can only be connected via a fiber cable.

Then insert the Ringnode into your computer, and connect it to a working token-ring network.

Note: Use only the most recent versions of memory managers when connecting a PCI computer to a Local Area Network.
