Installing the Smart 16/4 PCMCIA Ringnode

Caution: Make sure that the ring speed you set matches the speed of your network. The default ring speed for this Ringnode is 16Mbps, to change this run Madge Wizard.
Note: The PCMCIA Ringnode does not support connection to a Local Ringhub.

Before you install the Ringnode, do the following:

  1. Check that the Ringnode is bus compatible with your computer.

  2. Check the type of cable that you are using. The Ringnode can be connected via either the STP or the UTP patch cable supplied.

Then insert the Ringnode into your computer, and connect it to a working token-ring network.

You can use the Madge Smart 16/4 PCMCIA Ringnode with Windows 95 and Windows NT versions 3.51 and 4.0

Note: It is important that your computer has Card Services and Socket Services (Release 2.00 or above) loaded before you load any drivers from Madge's LAN Support Software. If your computer does not, contact your supplier.

Note: To save battery power, use the TRPOWER utility to ensure that the Ringnode is powered down when you are not using it.

Note: To save DOS memory, ensure that you load the network drivers only when you are going to use the network.
