Using the TRPOWER utility

Using the TRPOWER utility

On some computers Card Services powers up PCMCIA adapters even if they are not being used. The Madge TRPOWER utility enables you to control whether or not your Ringnode is using the computer's battery power.

To find out whether the Ringnode is drawing power, insert the Ringnode without loading any network drivers. Then type TRPOWER [ENTER] at the prompt. If the utility indicates that the Ringnode is powered, run TRPOWER (from CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT) specifying the /OFF option whenever you boot your computer for non-network use. This means that, if you boot by accident with the Ringnode inserted, it uses no power.

To find out whether your Ringnode is powered, type TRPOWER [ENTER]

To turn off power to the PCMCIA Ringnode, type TRPOWER /OFF [ENTER]

To turn the power back on, type TRPOWER /ON [ENTER]

To see a list of command-line switches, type TRPOWER /? [ENTER]

To ensure that the Ringnode is powered off (by loading TRPOWER from CONFIG.SYS), include the following line in CONFIG.SYS (after the line that loads Card Services):
DEVICE=C:\MADGE\TRPOWER.EXE /OFF

To ensure that the Ringnode is powered off (by loading TRPOWER from AUTOEXEC.BAT), include the following line in AUTOEXEC.BAT:
C:\MADGE\TRPOWER /OFF
