Installation of the RPL server

This section covers the installation of the RPL service from the OS/2 WARP Server CDROM. Installation from other media and the LAN Server CD-ROM follow a similar procedure.

The RPL services may be installed either during the initial installation of OS/2 WARP or at a later time from the OS/2 LAN Services Installation/Configuration utility in the LAN Services File and Print folder. Either way, you need to configure the services before using the OS/2 LAN Service Installation/Configuration utility.

Configuring the RPL services

1. Select the Tailored Installation Option from the first dialogue box.

2. Choose Install or configure this workstation from the next box.

3. Choose Domain controller from the next box.

4. Update the Multiple Transport Transport Services (MPTS) if you wish.

5. Ensure the correct Network adapter is selected in the lower box. Also make sure that the following protocols are added (The associated number may be left as zero.):

IBM IEEE 802.2
IBM OS/2 NETBIOS

6. To Install the two services, if not already installed, you can use the Installation and Configuration Box .

Use Install or remove a component to install these services if necessary. These being:

OS/2 Remote IPL Service
DOS Remote IPL Service

Use Configure a component to configure these services. This is necessary regardless of how the services were installed. Under the DOS service, select the required version of DOS and select copy. You will be prompted for the number of disks that DOS is installed from. e.g. 3 for MSDOS 6.2.

Use Apply Changes to set the system up. If the network is running, allow it to be closed . You will also be prompted for the DOS disks. Insert the disks in the correct order.

7. After configuring the Services run RIPLINST (if you are planning to boot OS/2) and GETRPL. In an OS/2 window extract the RIPLINST utility by typing:

UNPACK drive:\path\RIPLINST

To run the utility, type RIPLINST at the command prompt.

The screen displays a dialog box that asks for the confirmation of two user changeable parameters: One is the source path. You can change this to point to the path from where you plan to install OS/2 for RPL booting. Change the source path to D:\OS2IMAGE. Leave the other field unchanged.

8. The computer is now configured to allow RPL booting. To configure the computer for Madge Ringnodes, see Remote booting DOS workstations or Remote booting OS/2 workstations.
