Fitting the Smartrom into its socket

Fitting the Smartrom into its socket

  1. Identify the Smartrom socket on your Ringnode. The socket is a 28-pin Dual In-Line (DIL) socket (the ISA Client Plus has a 32-pin socket).

On all Smart 16/4 Ringnodes, except the Smart 16/4 PC Ringnode, the socket is near the center of the board. On the PC Ringnode it is near the RJ45 connector at the bottom right of the board. (For more information, refer to the Ringnode installation guide.)

  2. Take the Smartrom carefully from its packaging and check that all the pins are straight.

  3. Align PIN1 on the Smartrom with PIN1 on the socket (see the figure above). PIN1 on the Smartrom is directly above the notch in Figure 1. PIN1 on the socket is at the cut-off corner in the above figure. (It is not labelled on all Ringnodes.)

  4. Insert the Smartrom carefully into its socket. Check that all the pins of the Smartrom are in the socket correctly. Check that you have not bent any of them. If the pins are bent, this will cause a failure.

CautionDouble-check that the Smartrom is the correct way round. If you insert it the wrong way round, you will destroy the Smartrom, and may damage the Ringnode.

  5. Proceed to Enabling your Smartrom.
