While Smartrom for RPL (using the MULTI.ROM or NRPL.ROM images) looks for a server, it increments the above counter that is displayed on your screen. If it increments beyond 10, it is likely that Smartrom has failed to access the server.
If the server is separated from your workstation by one or more bridges, it will take the Smartrom longer to access the server.
If your Smartrom cannot access the server, then:
If the above message is displayed, check that your cable is properly inserted, then reboot your workstation. With NetWare, if the workstation starts to boot but then hangs, ensure that an entry for the workstation exists in the BOOTCONF.SYS file, in the server's SYS\LOGIN directory. Ensure also that you have copied the Novell file RBOOT.RPL into the SYS\LOGIN directory on the server.
