Utilities
=========

This file gives a brief description of the utilities that are provided
as part of this release. The  majority of these  utilities are for use
under DOS, although some utilities are provided for use under OS/2 and
Windows NT.

For more information on the utilities listed below you should refer to
the specified text file in \DOCS\INFO.

DOS Utilities
-------------

Utility         Description
-------         -----------
ATPMODE.EXE     Configures the Smart 16/4 AT Plus Ringnode into either
                Smart 16/4 AT Compatible mode or normal mode. (Further
                information : ATPMODE.TXT.)

DIAG.EXE        Diagnostics program for all Smart 16/4 Ringnodes. 
(DIAG.044)      

IFADAP.EXE      Detects the network adapters that are attached to a PC
                and allows  device drivers  to be  selectively  loaded
                depending on whether the specified adapter is present.

MADGECS.EXE     Card  Services  emulator  for the Smart  16/4  PCMCIA 
(MADGECS.CFG)   Ringnode. This  program can emulate Card Services and
                optionally  Socket  Services. (Further  information :
                MADGECS.TXT.)

MVER.EXE        Provides version information on LAN  Support Software.
                (Further information : MVER.TXT) 

PNPENABL.EXE    Configures  and  enables  Smart  16/4  Plug  and  Play
                Ringnodes for systems where Plug and Play features are
                not provided by the BIOS. Note this utility  is  NOT a
                configuration  manager. (Further  information :
                PNPENABL.TXT.)

PWSET.EXE       Use to password protect the configuration of any Smart
                Ringnode, that is software configurable  and/or  has a
                Smartrom fitted. (Further information : PWSET.TXT.)

PWRESCUE.EXE    Clears  the  password  on a Ringnode without prompting
                for the existing password. This is only an option  for
                users with the correct priveleges.

REMBOOT.EXE     Allows you to remote boot your workstation without the
(REMBOOT.CFG)   need for a Smartrom. Note that you will need to create
                a remote booting disk. (Further information : REMBOOT.

RINGUSER.EXE    Provides  information  on  which Ringnodes  are on the
(RINGUSER.BIA,  network  and  which drivers  they  are using. (Further
 RINGUSER.HLP,  information : RINGUSER.TXT.)

SMARTROM.EXE    Program  to  update and configure a Smartrom. (Further 
(MULTI.ROM,     information : SMARTROM.TXT, ROMIMAGE.TXT.)
 NRPL.ROM,
 NW.ROM)      

TERMRPL.EXE     Program  to  terminate  Remote  Program  Load,  in IBM
                LanServer  environments,  and  remove  driver code from
                DOS memory.

TRCFGC.EXE      Configuration program for Smart 16/4 AT Plus Ringnode,
                Smart 16/4  ISA  Client Plus  Ringnode, Smart 16/4 ISA
                PnP  Ringnode,  Smart 16/4  PCMCIA  Ringnode and Smart
                16/4 PCI Ringnodes. (Further information : TRCFGC.TXT.)

TRPOWER.EXE     Utility for powering off Smart 16/4 PCMCIA  Ringnodes,
                after Card and Socket Services has loaded.   

WHATADAP.EXE    Interrogates PCI, EISA, MCA, PCMCIA buses to find  any
                'Plug and  Play' devices found in your PC  and  prints
                out identification information for any  adapter  cards
                found. Information  is  provided on any PCI, EISA, MCA,
                PCMCIA or  Plug and Play card, found in the system and
                not just those produced by Madge.(Further information :

OS/2 Utilities
--------------

IFADAP.EXE      OS2 version of the DOS utility. (Further information :

MADGECS.SYS     OS2 version  of  Card  and  Socket  Services  emulator
(madgecs.cfg)   for Smart 16/4 PCMCIA Ringnodes (Further information :
                MADGECS.TXT.)  

MVER.EXE        OS2/ version of the DOS utility.(Further information :
                MVER.TXT.)

Windows NT Utilities
--------------------
Note that all platforms are supported

Utility        Description

DIAG_NT.EXE    Diagnostics program for Smart 16/4 Ringnodes.
(DIAG_NT.SYS)

W32PERF.EXE    Tests the performance of network components  connecting
               computers supporting the Win32 API (i.e. Windows NT and
               Windows 95).
