Information File For Madge Smart Token Ring Driver for Unixware 2.0
===================================================================
April 1996
==========

Summary
-------

This file describes how to install the Madge driver for Smart 16/4
Token Ring adapters under Unixware 2.0.

NOTE: This driver does NOT support Madge Smart PCI adapters.

Device Configuration
--------------------

Various hardware settings on the adapter, such as ring speed and DMA
channel, may be set either with switches on the adapter or a
configuration utility supplied on the MDGBOOT disk shipped with your
ringnode. Refer to the documentation supplied with the Ringnode.

When choosing hardware settings the following points must be
remembered:

i) Ensure that your ringnode does not use the same IRQ, and for AT
ringnodes DMA channel and I/O location, as other adapters in your
PC (Most of our adapters default to DMA channel 5).

ii) Make sure that the ring speed selected matches that of the ring to
    which you wish to connect.

Finally, make a note of the configuration of your adapter. That is its
I/O locations, IRQ number and for AT and AT Plus adapters the DMA
channel. You will need this information during driver installation.

Creating an Installation disk
-----------------------------

If you have received your Madge driver on an installation disk then
you should skip this section and proceed directly to "Installing the
Driver".

This section describes how to create an installation disk with the
installation disk image file mdgunx2.img from the Madge CD or bulletin
board.

To create an installation disk:

    a) Log into your Unixware system as the system owner.

    b) Copy the mdgunx2.img file into the /tmp directory.

    c) Place a blank formatted disk 3.5 inch disk in drive A: and
       enter the command:

       dd if=/tmp/mdgunx2.img of=/dev/fd0135ds18

    e) The disk in drive A: is now an installation disk for your
       Madge mtok driver.

Installing the Driver

1. Log onto your Unixware system as the system owner.

2. From the Desktop menu, select the Admin_Tools icon.
